Bassoonist Scott Hanratty performs extensively throughout Central Ohio. He is the principal bassoonist of the Worthington Chamber Orchestra, a position he has held since the orchestra’s creation. He has played with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Central Ohio Symphony, Westerville Symphony, and New Albany Symphony. Scott holds a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland, OH, under David McGill, and a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, where he studied bassoon under John Hunt. A native of Central Ohio, Scott studied as a young student with Betsy Sturdevant-principal Bassoonist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. As a student, Scott was passionate about chamber music and performed extensively in woodwind quintets as an opportunity to study quintet literature. Teaching is also a passion of Scott. He currently teaches a private bassoon studio and is dedicated to teaching bassoon at a high level to his students. Several of his students have attended some of the top music-performing colleges in the world.
