Jon Boley is a teacher and vocalist from Columbus, Ohio. He grew up on the Far East side of Columbus, attending Walnut Ridge High School, which boasted one the best choral programs in the state. He participated in all the Class AA choirs and show choirs, as well as OMEA Solo/Ensemble Class A. Upon graduation, he attended Michigan State University. He auditioned and participated in the first Acapella group on Campus, The Spartan Dischords. He studied voice pedagogy and choral conducting with Dr. Jonathan Reed and Dr. Jefferson Johnson. He left MSU after five years when he received a job offer to sing for Disney in an a cappella group, The Voices of Liberty. After moving back to the Central Ohio area in 2008, he transferred to Capital University and the Conservatory of Music where he finished his Bachelors in Vocal Music Performance and Audio-Visual Technology, Magna Cum Laud. He has been teaching voice in various genres, including Rock & Roll, Pop, Blues, Bluegrass, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Folk, and Rap, for 15 years in Central Ohio. He has also participated in many bands and tribute groups as the lead singer.

Jon’s teaching philosophy is based on growing self-esteem and confidence. Creating a fun and authentic environment for his students to develop their “outside” voice. Learning self-awareness and discipline through vocal fundamentals and practicing those skills with a contemporary repertoire. He utilizes his extensive experience and knowledge of rock and roll and its history to introduce new generations to the connections between contemporary popular music and the classics.

Artist Statement

I teach with the goal of empowering my students to become confident and authentic people who choose voice as their medium for self-expression. Instilling in them the skills, both technical and philosophical, to share that voice and the feelings and thoughts that come with it.
