After spending several years in Montana, Will recently returned to Ohio to pursue his DMA in Tuba Performance at The Ohio State University.  While in Montana, he served as program coordinator for the University of Montana School of Music, where he received graduate degrees in tuba performance and composition.  Additionally, Will was a professor of tuba and euphonium for the 2017-2018 academic year and served as a sabbatical replacement for Dr. Kevin Griggs during the 2020-2021 academic year, teaching marching band, concert band, and brass methods.  He plays B-flat bass with the Brass Band of Columbus and E-flat bass with the Central Ohio Brass Band, where he also serves as president of the board of directors. Will is active as a composer and arranger, and in April 2025, the Butte Symphony in Butte, Montana, will perform a composition they commissioned from him as part of their 75th anniversary celebration.  His arrangements and compositions can be found at Cimarron Music Press.  Will’s primary teachers include Professor Jim Akins, Dr. Ben Kirby, and Professor Tony Zilincik.  In his free time, he is an avid Lego UCS Star Wars collector and a lover of all things Halloween.

Artist Statement

My teaching focuses on emphasizing fundamental and routine exercises in an effort to achieve optimal performance. I believe a structured, predictable environment minimizes anxiety, enhances focus, and allows for consistent physical, mental, and emotional preparation. This leads to better performance results while minimizing the risk of damage or injury. I aim for both of us to feel calm and in control, allowing us to direct attention, eliminate distraction, and fully engage more confidently on stage.
