Robert Firdman is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, holding both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in performance and literature. He studied under renowned violinists Donald Weilerstein and Charles Castleman. Prior to joining the Columbus Symphony, Robert was an associate member of the Rochester Philharmonic under David Zinman and served as concertmaster of the National Orchestral Association in New York City, performing multiple times at Carnegie Hall.

In addition to his performance career, Robert has taught as an adjunct violin instructor at Ohio Wesleyan University and Kenyon College. He has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Dublin and was a member of the Carpe Diem String Quartet. He continues to perform regularly with the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra.

Recently, Robert performed Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the New Albany Symphony Orchestra and traveled to Bonefro, Italy, where he served as a coach and yoga instructor with Chamber Music Connection.

Artist Statement

Playing the violin requires patience and consistency combined with curiosity and listening.
I encourage all my students to listen to music as much as they practice the violin. Play solo passages, scales, and etudes under tempo, making each note important! Not perfect, but better!
